REGULAR REQUIREMENTS

Experience/Education

To earn the designation with regular requirements, candidates must:

  • Have six years pertinent landscape design experience. (1-4 years must be post-secondary related education)

  • Successfully pass all 6 sections of the written certification examination with a minimum grade of 70% per section.

  • Submit a portfolio of three landscape projects, developed following the portfolio submission guidelines, for review by the regional/provincial portfolio review committee.

  • Horticulture

  • Practice

Candidates who do not achieve 70% in any section(s) will re-write only those sections.

Written exams are delivered in Mettl, an online examination system with live proctoring features.

Portfolio Submission

Candidates submit a Landscape Design portfolio of 3 projects in which they played the key design role. Each project should meet criteria in the Portfolio Submission Guidelines. The portfolio is judged by a committee of academic, design/build members of CNLA or CSLA and a representative of the provincial/regional certification committee.
